Maintaining the Pearly White Smile
While dental implants remain a seeming novelty in the
Philippines, save for Manila
and its neighboring cities which have greater access to information about such
dental service, it has been replacing the traditional dentures for quite some
time now. The permanence of dental implants, not to mention the lesser hassle that goes with it in terms of
maintenance, make it the preferred replacement of a lost tooth that most dental
services in Metro Manila
do offer them as a solution.
Implants, however, remain
artificial; and as such, care must be taken in ensuring that they remain
intact, giving the wearer more reasons to flash those pearly white smiles.
1. The first 48 hours after the surgery is
crucial. Bleeding will occur which, at some time, could be coupled by pain.
During this period, use clean gauze and apply a slight pressure over the bleeding
part. Apply ice as needed, especially when bleeding worsens.
2. Make sure not to disturb the area where
the implants were installed as much as possible. After the first 24 hours,
rinse with salt water as needed.
3. From the date of the surgery until after
a week or so, a soft, less acidic diet may help in order to allow the implants
to set footing. Go for food rich in nutrients, especially the ones rich in
calcium. The latter would strengthen the jaw bones unto which the implants are
attached.
4. During the healing stage and thereafter,
care for your implants as you would care for your natural teeth. Use a
soft-bristled tooth brush and floss when needed. Bits of food may get stuck and
may cause bacteria build-up, leading to infection.
5. See your dentist for routine check-ups.
The importance of this one cannot be emphasized further. It is necessary to pay
the dentist a visit in a regular basis so that an actual professional could
assess the state of your implants.
The idea of having a surgery for tooth
replacement may seem daunting to some, but this is one of those the benefits
outweigh the risks scenarios. If you are considering having dentures, why
not ask your dentist about dental
implants instead? A lot of dentists in Metro Manila or even in your local area would be
happy to tell you about it.
